Q: What is an urgent care center?
A: An Urgent Care Center is a medical facility that treats patients on a walk-in basis for a wide variety of non-life or limb threatening illnesses, injuries, and minor emergencies.   Typically these facilties operate 7 days a week and provide after hours care.  Most have the ability to perform basic diagnostic studies, such as x-ray, labs, EKGs.  Many urgent care centers are expanding their scopes of practice to help meet the demands of industry and a growing patient population.  As a result, many centers offer occupational medicine services, sports and school physicials, vaccinations, wellness and weight loss programs.  Options Urgent Care & Wellness Center will offer all of these services and more.

Q: Should I go to urgent care or the emergency room for my medical condition?
A:  If you believe your condition is possibly life, limb, or eyesight threatening, your condition is an emergency and should be treated at a hospital emergency room not at an urgent care center.  Chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding, overdose, possible stroke, severe trauma, open fractures, and penetrating eye injuries are just a few examples of emergent conditions.  Immediately call 911 to report the emergency and request an ambulance be dispatched to transport the patient to the closest emergency room. Individuals with emergent medical conditions require the skilled transport of emergency medical personnel.  Attempting to move or transport them yourself could could cause further injury or harm.
If your condition is not life, limb, or eyesight threatening, but you are not sure where you should seek treatment, you can call us at (979) 285-CARE or 2273.

Q: Can I use Options as my family doctor if I don't have one?
A.  No, Options is NOTt a substitute for a family doctor.  Although we are glad to see patients anytime, we want to stress the importance of having a family doctor, serving as the "manager" of your healthcare.  Urgent care provides medical treatment for your unexpected illnesses or injuries, and serves as a resource for after hours care,  on weekends and holidays, or when you are unable to get an appointment with your doctor.
